Rio Surf n Stay

Our hostel is a spacious Portuguese style house just a 2 min walk from the beach and surrounded by Coconut Palm trees, tropical plants, with many birds, butterflies and monkeys passing by the trees in front of the house. Its the perfect spot to relax in a hammock after a day of surfing and other adventures. 

We are centered in the middle of 7 different surfing beaches, making it easy access by foot, bike and car.  We are located opposite to “Macumba Beach” in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, on the outer skirts of the Rio City, 30min down the coast from Ipanema. Easy to access by bus, taxi, or we can arrange you a pick up.

The hostel was put together and is run by a young couple, a New Zealander and Brazilian.  Both being well travelled surfers, they have put this interesting house together for you to fall in love with. "Our house is your home while you stay with us in Rio and enjoy the feeling of living in Brazil, we live in this area for a reason that you should experiance".

This area is ranked the best and most consistent surf beaches in the Rio City.  The secluded beaches Prainha and Grumari have amazing jungle mountain backdrop with no development, and on a hot weekend day, are the favorite hangout beaches for surfers, famous actors, and Brazilian hot bodies. Grumari is even the spot where the beach scene from the movie City of God was filmed.  These are the safest, cleanest and most relaxed beaches of the Rio City.  Stay with us, the only hostel in the untouched area and experiance an island style feeling close to the city. 

The rooms are spacious, with ceiling fans, screened windows, and your own personal bathroom with hot water showers. Your bed will be made for your arrival with our sheets provided.  We offer double, twin, single, and shared dorm rooms.

A free, fresh breakfast is provided daily of fruits, cakes, and breads with ham, cheese and jams. We also have a selection of juices, teas and fresh Brazilian coffee. Plus, to top it all off, a surf video playing in the background to amp you up for the day. We have no curfews and give every customer their own key to the gate, so you can come and go as you please.

* Beginner and novice Surf Lessons available in English, Portuguese and Spanish. 

* Beach cruisers are for rent to Bike around the board walks.

* Skate park located a few meters from the house at Recreio beach - boards availble for rent.

 * On site surf shop-
We have a On-site Surfboard showroom with a shaping room. The shop is run by by Victor Vasconcelos (Brazils Shaping ledged). The shop offers his own brand Hotstick and Ripcurl surf boards. Customized Surfboards are available by pre-ordering, on rack boards and used boards are sold for you to get in the water straight away. The shop offers other Equipment as well  such as leaches, wax, board bags, boardies, tee shirts and kite surfing equipment.

To get here:

- From Rio Novo Bus Station, Copacabana, Ipanema, Botafogo take Bus 175 – Recreio, S-20 - Recreio or a white Van to Recreio beach. Get off at Barra shopping and take a bus from that stop #703 or 702  to  Rua 8w (there is a big Surf Shop on the corner called 8W surf shop made from bamboo) then turn right, walk 50m to the first road and turn right again. The Rio Surf n' Stay is the second house on the left #1140 with a white fence and brown gate. Press door bell for Entrance.

- From the Airport GIG get a bus (Frescão) to Barra Shopping ($10 reais) and another bus 15 km to Recreio (either175, 179 or S-20 Recreio). Get off at 6w anf follow the instructions as above.

- We can arrange you a driver if you rather. In this case, please get in touch with us for arrangements and cost. This is the easiest way to get here with less hassle and its cheaper than a taxi from the airport.
